Don’t Go Shopping for Hair-Care Products Without Me: Over 4,000 Products Reviewed, Plus the Latest Hair-Care Information

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Are $20 shampoos and conditioners worth it? Can good hair-care products be found at the drugstore, or are the expensive salon products really superior? In this comprehensive guide to all things hair care, consumer advocate Paula Begoun answers those questions and more in her reviews of more than 130 drugstore, salon, and department store hair product lines, from Aveda to Matrix and Pantene to Zirh. Thousands of products are described and evaluated according to their performance, reliability, price, and claims. Begoun compares good and bad ingredients, dispels hair-care industry myths, evaluates what helps and what hurts hair, and explains how to tell the difference between reality and hype with respect to a product’s performance. Hair sprays, shampoos, conditioners, gels, mousses, pomades, silicone serums, and other items are covered. Her “Best Products” lists make it easy to find items worth trying in any category. The consumer bible of hair-care products, Don’t Go Shopping for Hair-Care Products Without Me, shows how to find the best products available at the most economical prices. Ultimately, Begoun shows consumers how to have beautiful tresses without spending a fortune.

Customer Review: I liked it enough to give as a gift for a friend
Very informative, though there are definitely hair care brands that she doesn’t review (like KeraCare, for example). However, there are numerous brands that I have never heard of that are included, and some of which seem like they weren’t popular since the 1980’s. . . . . .
I did like the book enough though to give it as a gift to my friend who has lots of trouble finding hair care products that don’t irritate her scalp. The author does a decent job of explaining the ingredients (both necessary ones and ones that are merely for show) that are included in shampoos, conditioners, and some styling products. She tells which ones have been shown to cause irritation for alot of people. So, I’m hoping this will help my friend. For my own personal use, I like understanding some of the science behind the ingredients, and which ones really don’t make any difference to hair health. There are even some styling tips included and a chapter on African-American hair.
Customer Review: One of Paula’s better books
Over the years I have purchased several of these books as the price of the book can save you much money in terms of misguided cosemetic purchases. This book, is better than her cosmetics books because she actually packs a lot of other info in the book. There are an ample number of product reviews but she adds in more about the chemistry of what goes into most hair care products.

I like this book the most because she also covers coloring of hair, a variety of other treatments, styling aides, and where your money will get the best bang for the buck. For example, did you know that letting your hair air dry is the best of all for your hair, as it causes no damange?
I like that she covers that there aren’t often major differences in drugstore shampoos and what you buy at the salons.

This book is packed with information, information that will help you make better choices. I can honestly say I have saved money since the purchase of this book and rethought a couple of items in the realm of hair care that will also help me save money, and not see a bit of a difference in the health of my hair. While the book may be a little bit out of date in 2008 it is still worthwhile in picking up.

For people with active lifestyles, this true broad-spectrum sunblock is waterproof and sweatproof to deliver maximum protection during high-energy activities. Sport UV Defense contains transparent zinc oxide as well as other active sunscreens to help protect against damaging UVA rays proven to cause premature signs of aging. All sunscreen ingredients are encapsulated in dimethicone to provide increased SPF with fewer chemicals, reducing the chances of irritation.
Customer Review: simply the best
I have tried every sunblock on the market. As a tennis player in So FL I use a lot of sunblock, especially in the summer. This one is the best for protection and for sensitive skin. It is too expensive and I get every last bit out of the tube by cutting it in half when it won’t come out any other way.

I’m glad to see it’s available outside of the dermatologist office where they charge $10 more than amazon. Buy Skin Care Cleanser Now

Living Beauty Detox Program: The Revolutionary Diet for Each and Every Season of a Woman’s Life

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

SPRING — time to rejuvenate. Leafy green vegetables, dandelion root tea, dill, mint, and chlorophyll-rich parsley cleanse the system, balance energy, and aid digestion.

SUMMER — an active season. Rose hips tea, garlic, cayenne pepper, and oregano, along with the Living Beauty Elixir, promote vitality, make the heart strong, and increase nutrient absorption.

AUTUMN — time for inward reflection and preparation for the darkness of winter. Fenugreek tea and warming foods and spices like cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg protect the lungs, aid in elimination, and boost the immune system, leaving you with vibrant skin.

WINTER — a season of stillness and rest. Getting enough sleep and eating cooked or warm foods spiced with ginger sustains body heat and immunity.

Customer Review: Good Stuff

Customer Review: I was skeptical but it really worked great
I really like that the detox are based on the season. That made a lot of sense to me. After I did the 3-day detox (Spring). I was so impressed with the results that I convinced my sister to try it and she was also very happy with the results. I followed the program pretty well, but did not like the pill-popping aspect (taking fiber supplements and supergreen supplements). Instead, I did my own legwork and research and did shots of wheatgrass in lieu of supergreen supplements and took herbal teas in lieu of the supplements she recommends. But for the most part, I followed everything else. It was pretty terrific. Never felt hungry. You may not enjoy the meals as much as I did (as a trained cook, I was able to improvise and make pretty creative dishes out of her ingredient list). For me, the worst part was the unsweetened cranberry juice, but I found that I started to enjoy it! I drink it all the time now. I will say this, I lost a few pounds and my skin looked great. Didn’t really notice a difference in my hair! I’m going to try the summer detox next. Buy Skin Care Makeup Now
